DISTRICT NEWS

October 19, 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Community & business leaders to be ‘Principal for a Day’

Twenty-one community and business leaders will spend October 27 as public school principals through the Gresham-Barlow School District’s and the Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation’s Principal for a Day program. The program is designed to help community leaders better understand the complex role of the school principal and get perspective on the school system from within.

Community leaders stepping into the role of school principal will participate in any number of activities, including visiting classrooms, meeting with teachers and parents, participating in a student council meeting, eating lunch in the cafeteria, or helping out on the playground.

This is the eighth annual “Principal for a Day” event in the Gresham-Barlow School District. The unique one day event brings together business, government, and community leaders and spotlights the work being done in our schools to educate tomorrow’s leaders. Principal for a Day programs have been extremely successful in Portland, New York City, Los Angeles, and many other school districts throughout the country.

The Gresham-Barlow School District serves more than 11,500 students in grades K-12. The Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation was formed in 1994 to assist the schools of the district in providing the best possible educational opportunities
for students.
