FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Assistant wrestling coach arrested

The Gresham-Barlow School District has learned that former Gresham High School assistant wrestling coach Wyatt DeRemer was arrested by the Gresham Police Department on October 1. DeRemer is being held on seven counts of sexual abuse in the first degree.

The Gresham Police Department is searching for additional victims and has requested that anyone with additional information call Detective Aaron Turnage at 503-823-0189.

“We are shocked and concerned about these charges,” said Gresham High School Principal John Koch. “We will be doing all we can to support our students.”

DeRemer served as an assistant wrestling coach for Gresham High School in 2014-15. He coached wrestling through the Schools Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN) Program at Clear Creek Middle School and Dexter McCarty Middle School. He worked as a volunteer with the Eastside Elite Mat Club. DeRemer’s work with the school district as a wrestling coach ended in March of 2015. DeRemer only worked as an assistant wrestling coach for the school district and was not on the teaching staff.

Counselors are available at Gresham High School, Clear Creek Middle School, and Dexter McCarty Middle School for students who need support.

The Gresham-Barlow School District will continue to work with law enforcement as they continue their investigation.
