FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation Accomplishes $100,000 Commitment

The Gresham Barlow Education Foundation (GBEF) recently announced the completion of their $100,000 commitment to the District. In 2009, the Foundation pledged to raise $100,000 through their annual phone-a-thon event to assist in the purchase of a core reading program for elementary classrooms.

At the October 4 school board meeting, GBEF Board President Vicki Moen presented a check to Superintendent Jim Schlachter and District Board Chair Dale Clark. A special thanks was also given to Bess Wills of Gresham Ford and Mark Garber of The Outlook for their many years of continued support and assistance in achieving this goal.

The annual phone-a-thon, held in February, is the Foundation’s largest fundraising event. Over the last six years, the phone-a-thon has raised more than $320,000, providing extra support for readers in the District. In addition to providing support for reading programs, the phone-a-thon also provides a fundraising opportunity for high school student groups by allowing them to make calls with their particular group with a portion of the proceeds going directly to the group.

The Gresham-Barlow School District serves more than 12,000 students in grades K-12. The Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation formed in 1994 to assist the schools of the district in providing the best possible educational opportunities for its students. For more information about the foundation, visit www.gbefkids.org
