FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Former Secretary of State Bill Bradbury to speak at Gresham High School

Northwest Power and Conservation Council member and former Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury will speak to students at Gresham High School on January 5.

The presentation, being made to high schools across Oregon, covers the duel challenges of meeting Oregon’s increasing demand for electricity and the need to produce less atmospheric carbon because of the increasing threats of climate change. Students will also learn about Oregon’s conservation and renewable energy efforts and the job opportunities that have been created with the new energy economy.

Bradbury was appointed to the Northwest Power and Conservation Council in 2010 as one of two representatives from Oregon. Congress has charged the Northwest Power and Conservation Council to develop an electric energy supply plan for the four NW states (OR, WA, ID, MT). The Council issues updated 20-year electric power plans every 5 years that guarantee adequate and reliable energy at the lowest economic and environmental cost to the Northwest. They are also responsible for educating and involving the public in the Council’s decision-making processes.

For fourteen years Bradbury served in the Oregon Legislature, representing the southern Oregon coast. He was elected to the State Senate in 1984, where he was elected Senate Majority Leader in 1986 and Senate President in 1993. He served as Oregon’s Secretary of State from 1999-2009. He ran for governor in 2010.
